7 Luxury Plug-In Hybrid Vehicles (PHEVs) For Under $60,000

Going from petrol to electric is a major decision, but thanks to plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEV), you can get a feel for electric vehicles before fully committing to an all-electric model. PHEVs offer additional electric power and even all-electric range for city driving while maintaining the familiarity of traditional gas-powered vehicles. For those interested in luxury cars that are also PHEVs, there are plenty of options available, and the following seven PHEVs even cost less than $60,000.

<p>Among the best sports sedans, the BMW 3 Series is one of the German marque’s most iconic vehicles, and now that car is available as a PHEV along with the BMW 330e.  According to BMW, the popular BMW 330 xDrive version of the PHEV starts at an MSRP of $45,300.  Engine-wise, the BMW 330 xDrive sports a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-4 and produces 288 horsepower.  This PHEV’s electric motor provides an all-electric range of 20 miles, perfect for quick trips around town without using gas.</p>

The Volvo S60 Recharge combines luxurious styling with powerful performance and electric capability. According to Volvo, this PHEV has a range of 41 miles in Pure Mode, the company’s name for all-electric driving in a PHEV. Plus, with the motor and electric motor combined for 455 horsepower, it can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in just 4.3 seconds. TrueCar says the starting price for the Volvo S60 Recharge is $52,345.

Lincoln Corsair Grand Touring

<p>The Lincoln Corsair Grand Touring is the PHEV model of the popular Lincoln Corsair crossover SUV.  Lincoln lists the price of the Corsair Grand Touring at $53,385.  While this has the benefits of being a plug-in hybrid and is still under $60,000, it’s considerably more expensive than the non-PHEV Corsair.  Still, it offers a spacious luxury interior and, according to Car and Driver, it can travel 28 miles using its electric power.</p>

<p>Another luxury crossover, the Audi Q5, is available as a gasoline-only or PHEV model.  All-wheel drive is standard in the Audi Q5, and it stands out for its impressive handling.  Audi says the base Audi Q5 PHEV starts at an MSRP of $55,400.  Like the other PHEVs on this list, the Audi Q5 PHEV has an electric-only mode with a range of 23 miles.</p>

<p>The BMW 530e xDrive is the PHEV variant of the BMW 5 Series and offers many of the advantages of the previously mentioned BMW 330 xDrive.  According to BMW, this large PHEV sedan can go from 0 to 60 mph in 5.7 seconds and offers an all-electric range of 21 miles.  It’s a true luxury sedan, costing $58,700, making it the most expensive PHEV on this list.</p>

Volvo says the XC60 Recharge’s gas engine and electric motor combine for 455 horsepower and give it a 0-60 mph acceleration time of 4.5 seconds.  With its all-electric Pure mode, drivers can get a range of up to 35 miles.  As for cost, the Volvo CX60 Recharge PHEV starts at $57,200.</p>

<p>The Lexus NX is yet another crossover SUV to get the PHEV treatment.  Lexus lists several trims for the NX Plug-In Hybrid, and the one it’s most focused on is the NX 450h+ AWD, which has a combined horsepower rating of 304.  This model has a starting price of $57,300 and can drive using electric power alone for up to 37 miles.</p>
